IN THE SPOTLIGHT: WOLO

Focused on listening-oriented electronic music and live elements, WOLO blends electronic sounds with instruments and atmosphere-driven performances.

Alongside live activity, WOLO also releases recorded music through independent electronic labels – with projects developing across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the United States.

When did the WOLO project begin?
WOLO developed gradually alongside my radio work. It wasn’t conceived as a club project or a traditional DJ alias, but as a flexible space to explore electronic music through listening-oriented performances. Over time it became a defined project moving between radio, live sets, and different cultural contexts.

You are active both in radio and live music. How do these two worlds connect within WOLO?
Radio taught me to think about sound in terms of time, context, and listening rather than performance alone. Working daily with radio sharpens your awareness of pacing and atmosphere. WOLO grew from that mindset and applies it to live situations, where music is meant to be experienced rather than consumed.

Radio still plays a central role in your work. What does it represent for you?
Broadcasting daily from Ibiza has always felt like a privilege. A daily radio show creates a direct relationship with listeners at different moments of the day. Over time, music became a way to set a tone based on listening and human connection, and that approach naturally carries into WOLO performances.

How would you describe the sound of WOLO?
The sound is rooted in electronic music but leaves room for live elements and organic textures. Rather than focusing on peak-time moments, the emphasis is on atmosphere, continuity, and gradual progression. It’s music designed to unfold over time.

Your work also includes recorded releases, how does the studio side fit into the project?
Recorded releases allow the project to exist beyond live performances, translating the same listening-oriented approach into a fixed form. Music has been released through independent labels such as Cafe de Anatolia and DeepWit Recordings, maintaining a coherent identity across studio and live contexts.

Your performances often take place outside traditional club settings. Why?
WOLO wasn’t designed specifically for nightlife. The project works particularly well in cultural, daytime, or hospitality environments, where people are more open to listening without the expectations of a club setting.

You often present what you call Sunset Rituals. What are they?

Sunset Rituals are performances built around transitional moments of the day. They combine electronic music and live elements in open or natural settings, creating shared listening experiences rather than conventional shows.

Where have these Sunset Rituals taken place so far?
They’ve been presented in different contexts, from Ibiza to New York, as well as in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and parts of Asia including Thailand. Each location subtly influences the performance.

You recently performed at the Sustainability Excellence Awards 2025 with Zamna Group. How did that fit into your work?
It was part of a sustainability-focused event where music was integrated into the broader cultural framework. Sound functioned as an atmospheric element rather than entertainment alone, which aligns closely with how WOLO approaches live performance.

Does sustainability influence your artistic choices?
More in terms of approach than explicit messaging. It’s about intention, scale, and how experiences are designed without excess.

Do you consider WOLO a DJ project?
DJing can be part of it, but WOLO functions more as a flexible music project that adapts to different formats and environments.

What’s next for WOLO?
Continuing to develop listening-focused performances across different cultural and geographic contexts, while keeping a strong connection between radio, recorded music, and live experiences.
